End of Summer Floral Collection: Watercolor Sunflowers & Postpartum Healing Art
Project type
Watercolour Artworks
Date
2021
Location
Ebern, Haßberge
The "End of Summer" collection features watercolor sunflower paintings that represent the emotional journey of postpartum healing and resilience. The central piece, "End of Summer" (100 x 150 cm), is a deeply personal reflection on my experience with postpartum depression. The sunflower, traditionally a symbol of positivity, bends toward the autumn light—symbolizing the end of one season and the acceptance of change and transformation. Alongside this large painting is "The Muted Nines", a series of nine smaller watercolor sunflowers, each exploring the quiet beauty found in life’s transitions.
This collection is a visual story of healing, capturing the shift from darkness to light, from struggle to acceptance. Through vibrant yet muted tones, these sunflowers reflect the strength it takes to move through the seasons of life and embrace what comes next.
Perfect for art collectors and those seeking emotionally charged floral art, this collection offers original watercolor paintings that celebrate both personal and universal resilience.
During the creation of this piece, my son played beside me, painting his own picture, while I poured out the emotions of motherhood onto the canvas. This painting represents the moment I finally reconnected with myself and my son, embracing the changes in my life and the love I could finally express.
The collection also includes nine smaller watercolor paintings titled "The Muted Nines," where each dying sunflower tells a story of quiet resilience. These sunflowers, though not in full bloom, carry the beauty of life’s transitions, just as I learned to find beauty in my postpartum journey.
